Versatile, Pre-Engineered Electric Heater Power Panels for Petrochemical & Industrial Applications
Overview
Principal Technology Inc. (PTI) engineers pre-engineered electric heater power panels (HPPs) that deliver fast deployment, robust safety, and precise temperature control for process liquids, gases, vaporizers, ovens, air preheaters, and high-temperature furnaces. Built for three-phase power systems and factory-tested prior to shipment, our panels shorten design and commissioning timelines while maintaining the flexibility to meet site-specific requirements.
“Principal Technology’s years of experience in the field enables us to understand the features and requirements petro-chemical refiners, industrial processors and manufacturers demand most from their industrial controls equipment,” said Matthew S. Hodson, president and CEO of Principal Technology. “We have taken this knowledge forward to create a line of pre-engineered products, including our heater power panels, that allow for faster design, installation and commissioning. Not to be confused with a One-Size-Fits-All product, our pre-engineered systems can be tailored to meet the needs of the end-user. This modular design approach allows us to efficiently marry the foundation elements of a pre-engineered solution with the unique requirements of many industrial operators.”
Why Pre-Engineered Heater Power Panels
Our standardized platform accelerates schedules without forcing a “one-size-fits-all” box. Panels ship with the core features process operators expect and can be tailored with controls, materials, and ratings to match application, environment, and code requirements.
Core Capabilities (Standard)
- Power ranges: typically 15–540 kW at 480 VAC, 3-phase, 60 Hz; multiple heater circuits support redundancy and uptime. Modulating control uses SCR power controllers proportional to a 4–20 mA demand signal. External heat sinks promote rapid heat rejection for long component life.
- Operator interface: lockable main disconnect, control power transformer, NEMA 4 enclosure, pilot lights (power, heater on, over-temperature) with local reset.
- Safety: single-point power disconnect, fusing for SCR protection, password-protected over-temperature controller, touch-safe components, remote permissives/feedback, and factory testing.
Configurable Options
- Single or dual (redundant) heater configurations, integrated process temperature controllers, UL listing for general purpose or hazardous locations, stainless steel enclosures, enclosure conditioning (heaters/AC) for extreme climates, and SCCR up to 65 kA. All panels meet NFPA 70 (NEC) with hazardous-location approvals available.
Prometrix: Our Productized HPP Line
PTI’s product division, Prometrix, offers a configurable line of Electric Heater Power Panels with standard sizes from 15 kW to 360 kW (higher outputs available on request). Prometrix supports Watlow SCRs (DIN-A-MITE, ASPYRE DT) and Sensata SSR options, with digital protocols (e.g., Modbus RTU, EtherNet/IP) and accessories like open-heater/shorted-SCR alarms, surge suppression, phase-failure indication, and dual-heater/single-enclosure options. Standard enclosures are NEMA 4/12, with over-temperature safety interlocks and door-mounted controls.
Applications
- Refining & petrochemical: electric process heaters, vaporizers, tank heating, and air preheaters
- General industry & manufacturing: ovens, annealing, heat-treat systems, and precise liquid/gas temperature control
- Remote operations: modular packages integrated into MCC rooms or e-houses for plug-and-play startup
Integration & Delivery
As a full-service engineering and system integration firm, PTI can deliver your Heater Power Panels as stand-alone panels or as part of a turnkey skid or module, complete with instrumentation, PLC/HMI, and safety systems. Our System Integration team designs and validates control logic, while System Fabrication Services build, wire, and factory-test your equipment for rapid, risk-reduced commissioning.
